A digital piece developed from a photograph I took of a very moving memorial sculpture in the Cimetiere du Monparnasse, Paris. This justly famous cemetary opened in 1824 and included amonst its illustrious dead are Jean Paul Satre and Simone de Beauvoir, Henri Laurens, Chaim Soutine, Brancusi, Dreyfus, General Patain, Samuel Beckett, Maupassant, Baudilaire, and Man Ray. It also contains many extraordinary monuments to the memory of less illustrious citizens of Paris, such as this evocative memorial. By adding the colour wash and graining the photograph I have attempted to heighten the sense of a woman grieving for her loss.
