This is an original abstract oil painting with charcoal on canvas. The title 'Santa Monica' refers to a small beach city in Los Angeles County. I created this painting after moving from Los Angeles to Texas where I now live. This paintings is an abstract representation of a conglomeration of views experienced in that town. Although Santa Monica is a beach community, it is anything but sleepy. There is a very active downtown, shopping on the 3rd Street Promenade, and several heavily traveled freeways and boulevards. If not for being overshadowed by the shear scope of Los Angeles itself, it would seem larger. In this painting, I recognize the famous pier which juts into the Pacific and if frequented by tourists and film crews. I can see the build-up of shops and office buildings and the hill in the distance representing the Palos Verdes Bluffs.
