the story of Coatlique has always fascinated me. so much so that this is my third incarnation. the first was in acrylics, the second [which was very Basquiat] was done in oils, and this one is my latest [and favorite]. my dear friend kimberly, whom i'd recently visited in california, had sent me a book on art deco architecture in los angeles. it was, to say the least, INSPIRING. i wanted to a whole series of aztec myths in this style. this was my first. and i'm very pleased with it. as stated previously, this is influenced by both george yepes [structure] and tamara de lempicka [style].
