These sculptures combine elements taken from the forest such as plants, bark and stencils that I make and press into the clay. These act as areas of resist when I apply slips and glazes to the stoneware clay.
As humans, we have had a tremendous influence on the development of our surrounding landscape and it has likewise left an indelible imprint upon us. The shaping is mutual and ongoing and it is difficult to know if we control nature or if nature controls us. Or, is it an elegant, complex reciprocity, the landscape acting upon humans and humans acting upon the landscape?
This ceramic sculpture is ready for display and can be shown on a pedestal, table or shelf or outdoors in a garden or on a deck. It is made of high fired stoneware clay and is durable and weather resistant. Please go to the following link for information on weather resistant ceramics:
