HIKAYAT SERIES / MYTH SERIES
Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa or The Kedah Annals is an ancient Malay literature that chronicles the bloodline of Merong Mahawangsa the founder of the Kedah, state in Malaysia. Though there are historical accuracies and myth that makes many incredible assertions. The era covered by the text ranged from the opening of Kedah by Merong Mahawangsa. This is a heritage of fabulous myths and legends of ogres and garuda (gigantic birds / demigod), warriors and fairy princesses, battles and romance. I paint this series with my imagination how the myth story from the texts of Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa can be transformed to canvas. I also add Jawi text (traditional Malay text), which this Hikayat have been written on to my paintings.
