This piece was created from a web photograph of a US platoon of soldiers (Wynot Patrol 09) posing against the skyline with their weapons, as young men on all sides do. As a result of my use of this external source, the piece is not for sale.
It is one of a series of mixed media art work prints created as a personal response to the violent events of the Iraq War and its bloody postscript. This series is not intended as a partisan political statement, but rather as a purely humanitarian and reflective one. The images represent views from behind dirt, bomb and blood splattered glass, and through the strange beauty this creates commemorate those who have died, or suffered loss, in this messy conflict. We are also reduced to viewing such conflicts through the 'window' of the media, and this is another aspect of these works.
