"BA Soileau Cotton Gin" by Dot Chauvin
Limited Edition Print
Edition Size: 500

“B A Soileau Cotton Gin”, 16x20 print, acid free museum quality paper, s/n 500. This was created of the Cotton Gin that was in Ville Platte, Louisiana. The painting was done by listening the to Mr. Soileau describe the gin and tell stories of his Grandfather’s Cotton gin. As he reminisced over the history of the Gin, telling stories of how his Grandfather would not let him go into the gin while it was operating. Tales of how he would go get a soda on the porch of the building next door. (The office) He got to ride in his Grandfathers fancy car parked by the office but still wasn’t allowed in the gin due to all of the big machinery. Many stories were told of his childhood around the gin and now as a grown man he had no photos of the building, only memories. The gin was torn down in 1983 but with the stories he told and description of the cotton gin process helped create the image in my mind to document this historical building on the canvas. Some of detail in the painting is difficult to see from the small image on-line, but anyone with ancestors that worked in the old gins would be proud to have this piece of history.

Matt.11: 28 All pieces are signed and below my name is a scripture that is significant to the particular painting, as this is the origin of my ability and inspirations. I welcome commissions as I thoroughly enjoy creating that special one of a kind painting from what you want, have seen or that old home place that is no longer exists. I welcome and value your feed back in the Critic’s section. Contact me for more information and for any additional questions.
