Poplar trees grow all around the San Francisco Bay area, but especially in the lowland swamps and marshes. They were abundant in the Sunnyvale area around the Lockheed facility where I worked for 13 years. I took many photos of them, and based some etchings and drawings upon them. They are amazing trees, very tall and slender, with extraordinarily thick and dense branches. They remind me of medieval castles, and imagine fairies and trolls living in them. Unfortunately, they are often cut down to make way for roads and buildings.
