The Oroboros is the ancient Jungian symbol of the earth that appears in various forms across all cultures past and present. It represents the mystery of life on this planet, which survives endlessly by consuming itself. Native Americans, as well as all traditional cultures, regard the earth as sacred because the bones of the ancestors are buried in its soil. We gain strength and energy literally and figuratively from their remains. This painting was done in 1974-5 for a class in advanced painting taught by the famed Visionary artist, Bill Martin. It is painted on a convex canvas constructed in the shape of a hexagon 36" diagonally. Posters and prints are available.
