Gooseneck barnacles are those brave creatures that live in the tide pools between the ocean waves and the shore. They have to survive periods of both extreme wet and dry. Abundant on the Pacific Coast of California, they are small, about 2" high, and number in the millions. They grow in the tide pools and on the shore rocks and even on other shells. They symbolize to me surviving good times and bad times, and adapting to change.
"Gooseneck barnacles are crustaceans that live in the intertidal zones of temperate and cold water oceans, particularly in areas of heavy surf. The hard-shelled portion of the gooseneck barnacle’s body, which contains the internal organs, is supported on a long muscular stalk. Gooseneck barnacles use this stalk to latch onto floating objects or rocks, where they cluster in dense groups."
