Seller Comments... "Hedgehog" linocut, serigraph on kitikata 16"x20" 2001. Edition of 8 "Hedgehog" a relief and serigraph print was inspired in a large part by Japanese ukiyo-e, woodblock prints as well as contemporary Japanese figurative and decorative art. I did not really aim to portray a hedgehog as such, but it struck me the resemblance by the hairlike strokes made by the uncarved slivers in the linoblock. This is one of my favorite works, it differs from most of my work in terms of style, however I found the process came about organically. The original black and white image I painted in sumi-e ink with bamboo brushes. Then I made a xerox and used that to carve the primary line image into linoleum block. The silkscreened areas of color seemed to fill the negative space and separate the different parts of the "hedgehog's "anatomy". POSTCARD available
