This piece was created from a published web photograph of a helicopter-based operation led by US marines in Iraq. In this context the words of the US artist Frank Conde are particularly applicable: 'Death is Normal.' As a result of the use of this external source the piece is not for sale.
This piece is one of a series of mixed media pieces created as a personal response to the violent events of the Iraq War and its bloody postscript.
This series is not intended as a partisan political statement, but rather as a purely humanitarian and reflective one. The images represent views from behind dirt, bomb and blood splattered glass, and through the strange beauty this creates commemorate those who have died, or suffered loss, in this messy conflict. We are also reduced to viewing such conflicts through the 'window' of the media, and this is another aspect of these works.[CLICK ON THE IMAGES FOR LARGER FORMAT VERSIONS]
