Seller Comments... The Guildsman and The Worm Like most of my paintings, I don't know what they are about until I am way into painting them. I always start with color and abstract expressionist splotches of paint and keep working it until I find a shape..then the next shape...and so on. At the time of this painting I was reading the entire series of DUNE novels by Frank Herbert. They took me months to read and the painting took me months to paint. I finished both at about the same time and realized I had painted one of the GUILD NAVIGATORS and THE WORM. The Guildsman is able to "fold" space with his mind and therefore navigate ships across time and space. These navigators live in a bubble filled with "spice" gas. THE WORM is a former human-son of the Messiah of Arrakis or DUNE as it is called. THE WORM has taken on the body of the great sand worms of Arrakis' vast dessert. THE WORM becomes the all powerful dictator of the known universe for millenia. Acrylic on un-stretched canvas with spray paint and stencil.
