This work was painted during the bizarre blackout of the Summer, 2003 which affected several northern U.S. states and Ontario. Shown from Toronto harbour, the city appears in total darkness just as dusk is setting in.
Though vibrant colours are present, the influences from Monet’s 1908 series painted in Venice are strongly evident.
