In 1939, Franz Johnston spent 5 months at Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories. This piece looks fondly back on that time, displaying a peaceful waterfront scene of a lone cottage that overlooks the billowing lake. The sky peeks through the clouds, shining light on Johnston’s texturized backdrop of trees and mountains, in his signature linear style. One of Johnston’s more realistic pieces, he accurately captures and beautifully presents this landscape.
