Texture, thick layers of oil paint, copper power spray, with a high gloss surface connects with the audience right away in this dramatic piece.
I painted "Love Affair" in one day. The texture process took two months. The timing could not have been better for texture to completely and undeniably dry and set. I'd been building up the texture for about a month. I'd always known what this piece was going to be and enjoyed looking at it before I even painted it. This has to be one of the few paintings that are in my head that come out exactly as planned.
What was so fun to me was the layers and layers of paint I kept putting on the canvas. The porous multimedia canvas was drinking the paint up in all the crazy crevasse and I keep feeding it wet oil paint and began adding different colors to the predominately purple background. There are significant amount of color combinations that really work well together to bring out the uniqueness of the hearts. In "Love Affair", I am expressing that the uniqueness of the two hearts are illuminating their own light around them.
