Wichie Torres, born in the rich Afro-Caribbean stew
of Ponce, the principal city of southern Puerto Rico, On March, 29, 1952.The Puerto Rican traditions and costumes caught Wichie Torres feeling and interest; they although made a big impression on him and as a young boy he began to capture them on drawings and paintings. He began his art studies with Professor Carola Colóm Covas in 1967; later he continued studying with Frank Cervoni
At the School of Plastics Arts in the Puerto Rican Institute of Culture, in Puerto Rico. He attends the Catholic University of Puerto Rico through a scholarship. Wichie Torres then moved to New York, where he studied under Rafael Sustachi. In 1973 he took a different road, this time to Mexico where he studied at the San Carlos
Academy of Arts. But Puerto Rico continued to be his greatest inspiration and since he has returned to celebrate his home in paintings.
Since 1967 Wichie Torres has exhibited his art in Puerto Rico at Museo de Arte de Ponce (colectiva), Casa Alcaldía de Ponce, Galería Coquí /Felipe Oduardo, Galería San Sebastián , Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico, Casa del Médico , Caribe Hilton , Primera, Segunda, Tercera, Cuarta y Quinta Exposición de Arte Ponceño en el Colegio Universitario Tecnológico de la Universidad de Puerto Rico in Ponce .
