HISTORY & BACKGROUND
Edson Arantes do Nascimento, or Pelé as he is globally known, is considered to be the greatest athlete of all time and one of the most recognized sportsmen in the world. With a glorious sports career, he reached an impressive 1283 goals in 1346 games as a professional football player and earned titles both on and off the field.
Pelé became a legend, revered for his deeds as both an athlete and a man. Among the hundreds of national and international accolades he was named "Athlete of the Century", "Athlete of the Millenium" and "Athlete Who Changed the Game" to name but a few.
Pelé was regarded by sports scientists as having the perfect body for football from his heart, to his legs, to his feet and even his eyes. Italian player Burgnich, who marked Pelé during the 1970 World Cup, was quoted as saying "I told myself before the game, he's made of skin and bones just like everyone else-but I was wrong!"
