Deborah Chapin HISTORY & BACKGROUND
For nearly 30 years Deborah Chapin has been a leading force in contemporary art. As an accomplished marine artist she was the 20th century representative at the Ketterer Kunst 16th - 20th centuries Marine Art Exhibition (Hamburg). De Beer’s monograph compares her active water scenes with 17th century Dutch painter [Ludolf Backhuysen National Gallery of Art, 2004]. As an accomplished plein air painter, she depicted wetlands and waterways and won the Grand Prize at the Paint America Competition. Now as she enters the final decades of her career her focus has become increasingly about the refinement of her vision, stretching its meaning and conveying what she knows. She is creating a series of DVD/demos on plein air and studio painting entitled "Educating the Eye" begun at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Her books and writings broaden the scope beyond the arts. Listed in: Who’s Who in American Art 21st-28th editions. - her work can be seen through her new studio website at http://deborahchapin.com, her gallery soon to be updated at http://deborahchapin.com and galleries and exhibits worldwide. See http://deborahchapin.com/cv.html for a complete up-to-date listing of exhibition history.
