Contrary to the generally accepted idea, sex is by no means taboo. Few things provoke such logorrhoea and “eidorrhoea.” Sex sells, as everyone knows. But is the ambient speech therefore sensible? Nothing could be less certain. The unceasing background rumour humbugs about everything and nothing, while the crux of the issue remains perhaps concealed. Intimacy is taboo.
Besides, this hypothesis does not only apply to sex and sexuality. Unlike totalitarian regimes that overtly practice censorship, the current information overload is a perfect red herring. When everything is allowed, nothing is possible; when saying everything is allowed, it is hardly possible to know the real story. This is often repeated with regard to the information and knowledge society. But is it not rather a disinformation and ignorance society?
