Though strongly influenced by traditional Chinese masters and Japanese Sumi-e painting, I continually redefine that pure medium by the addition of contemporary texture. Add to that my calligraphy training and abstract expressionist influences of Kline, Pollock and Motherwell and you will find me.
This is a small 7x7" original fine art calligraphy features a layered composition. The boldly written Asian character for Dream written in an interpretive kaishu script is presented as a three sided bleed running off the edges of the thin mulberry paper, hence the abstraction. This sheer image is layered over a single stroke sumi ink line on rough watercolor paper for contrast and a narrow strip of sheer diagonal velloum is layered on top to finalize the dimensional layering. Small tectured, gilded (24k gold leaf) contemporary squares are randomly placed as floating chops to accent and tie together the art.
This is available as a completed framed piece which has been featured in numerous juried shows and most recently in the annual juried publication Lettering Arts Review. For additional images and pricing information contact the artist at designsinkart.com.
