Though strongly influenced by traditional Chinese masters and Japanese Sumi-e painting, I continually redefine that pure medium by the addition of contemporary texture. Add to that my calligraphy training and abstract expressionist influences of Kline, Pollock and Motherwell and you will find me.

ORIGINAL FINE ART CALLIGRAPHY

This calligraphic collage by Chris Paschke is Chinese watercolor, gouache, graphite, 24karat gold leaf and rice papers on Fabriano hot press 140# watercolor paper, with artist chop and signature lower right corner. Shown unframed. This original is also available custom framed in either a black or gold 1-1/2" deep contemporary moulding with triple mat, spacers and conservation glass. Email for additional information on framing.

Back washed with red-violet and blue-violet blended brush strokes this collage of kozo, washi, ogura, and unryu papers has a lovely Chinese poem by Du Fu—written below--about the loving preparations for a welcome visitor. The Asian character and contemporary calligraphy are bold brush strokes painted with a large horse hair Chinese brush. The text is again reflected in the overlapping use of freely written interpretive Carolingian and Monoline uncial capitals running over, through, and behind the color wash and collaged papers. It is also accented with 24k gold leaf squares and dots and is signed and dated in graphite lower right corner.

CALLIGRAPHIC QUOTATION:

North and South of the cottage
Spring floods abound.
Day by day my only visitors are gulls.
Before today I never swept the path of fallen petals
But now my thatched door is open
Just for you.

-Du Fu
