this is a great painting which recreates the scene where matthew (on the left) decides to follow christ, stricken with guilt, he as well as the other tax collectors are in disbelief that christ would consider breaking bread with sinners rejected by society, the idea that all sinners are loved by christ. this is a dramatic scene and the artist intentionally created the lighting and shadows to add to the drama almost as though the viewer was being invited into the scene and was given the chance to tag along with matthew or stare like the other tax collectors.it is a great inspirational painting very high resale value. The artist was born in the Congo and moved to the United States at a very young age. Due to the lack of financial stability his family experienced all through his life, he was unable to explore his talents which one included his ability to create art.
though the artist was always intrigued by art he was unaware of his ability to create it, until the artist eventually moved to the united states and At the age of 16 after visiting a local museum during a school trip, he decided to get started on his own very first paintings, after completing his very first paintings as a self taught painter his work was displayed all through new York city and at the age of 17 he was commissioned to paint portraits for the cover of a book published by the ABC network. This painting is one of the artist very first self taught paintings, he created this painting without the use of any models posing, this image came straight out of the artist creative imagination and this fact has always been mind blowing to many art lovers including other artist, the idea that a person who never held a paint brush before and had no education in art can close his eyes visualize an image and recreated on canvas. This painting is part of the artist art series called redemption the artist is considered as a follower of the Italian baroque master Caravaggio as well Jacques Louis David He is widely considered as one of the future prominent painter of the art world.
