When I did this one I staired at the canvas for about 40 minutes and sketched a few things, but wiped them away with a wash of acrylic because it didn't feel right. then I heard a voice in my head tell me to stop thinking and put the paint on the canvas, and the image would paint itself. I went into a kind of automated state and painted this in a 4 hour sitting without taking even a 30 second break. I wanted the land to come alive, which is the way I see it, sometimes with literal figures as the spirit of the trees and water and earth. I wanted the very air to crystalize and take on a thick majic hue. I will try to reshoot the image sometime. It really is much nicer than the photo.
