Much detail is missing from this photograph that is in the original painting.
The Great Smoky Mountains, along the Tennessee, North Carolina border, boast some of the most awe inspiring views I have ever seen. Filled with untold flora, the views change not only with each season, but within days. I'm told that the early Scottish settlers in this area were attracted by the similarities to their highlands.
If you get the chance to take a drive along any of the roads that pass through this area, keep your eye out for unexpected views but make sure you keep one eye on the road. Many of the mountain roads are edged by steep drop-offs.
