The beach at Monkey Mia is one of the most dynamic I've ever been to. Early in the morning as the sun rises the gulls gather and the pelicans sweep by scoping their fishing grounds for the day.
Soon the tourists start arriving emerging bleary eyed from their air conditioned coaches to wait for the dolphins. The dolphins come in anytime from 7am and hang around to be fussed about, photographed and fed.
By 10am its not unusual to see something like 50 odd people on the beach all wanting to "pat the dolphins" which of course isn't permitted. This is a mecca for the population of dolphin lovers to have their spiritual or naturalist cetation experience.
But that’s not the only thing to Monkey Mia. It is an extremely rich marine and terrestrial ecology with a vast variety of species highly adapted to live in this arid coastal environment. Take a walk away from the bustle and experience the wildness.
