We used clear 3/4" safety glass and triple-laminated safety glass to fabricate the glass in this design. The triple-lami allows us to bond three pieces of glass together, and break the central tempered piece from the edge. The tempering process's heat energy binds the glass surface together more strongly in a crystal-lattice structure
that makes the glass crumble into beads of glass when it breaks -- and the lamination process contains that broken glass. The result is glass that is both broken and structurally sound -- and surprising in its glittering opportunities for elegance.
The metal rods connect the wood framing together and provide a handrail on top of the glass framing: a design that slims the staircase and balconies while allowing for easy gripping.
