This remarkable image gives an illusion within the lesson of its teaching. Such is often the Native way of teaching hard things in a gentle way.

Honouring the Turtle - - -
The children of a poor village are hungry. There are no buffalo, there is no game - no supplies. The women begin to pray to Creator to send food so they can feed their hungry children. Their eyes cry tears of sadness for the misery of their village and for the burden on their hunters. A great turtle comes into the village and turns onto his back, offering himself to the women so they might feed the hungry. The women dance and rejoice, honouring the spirit of the turtle and the of Mother Earth for this kindness.
Today, the children will not be hungry.
*************
If you look closely at the image, you might see a flower. But if you sharpen your vision, you will see four women bent over a turtle's belly, their colourful blankets swinging out behind them as they celebrate the Creator's gift.
