The original award-winning mural was created in 1995 for the "chalk it up" festival (the world's largest street painting event) in Pasadena, California.
"The piece is a visual metaphor for the current situation in Cuba. The angel, depicting liberty and freedom, is perched atop the island immobilized. While rendered a statue, tears still stream down her face as her soiled and torn sash floats in the blue waters. Her broken wing impedes her spirit which only time and healing will be able to repair. - Suggesting that there is still hope."
