"The Academy"
Built more upon ideal than rock, the Academy had been the most tangible evidence that the Age of Reason had reached the Cities of The Plains.
By agreement the retreat had been located at a central point,as best equidistant from the principal population centres as was practical. Each city sent its chosen scholars to study in its halls, and thence to return,if so desired, and share the knowledge gained. Some returned, others went abroad,or as abroad as it was known, and Reason spread her hand. The calm was settling, the evidence succinct.
Teachers held students in awe with learned discourse, and the power of thought had come to roost upon the roofs and belfries far and wide.Village green and city terrace echoed with this conversation, and everywhere the message could be heard.
And then one day,as dust lay soundly undisturbed upon its study desks and half decided globes, the doors were closed and the Academy fell silent.
It had duly served its purpose, its pupils held in high regard and following their masters. And now,in much deserved sleep it sits fulfilled, spoken fondly of in Myth,as all who have not seen it believe it must have been.
