You can see the indirect light bouncing off the tree reflecting on the Great Horned Owl's breast feathers. The owl is in partial shade and he is also making his own shade on the tree. the tree is dead from a lightning strike. You can see the burn streaks that are typical of lightning strikes. There is also some lichen covering one of the dead limbs and some mold.
