Scars and Stains of New York
These photographs are part of a series taken in late 2000 and early 2001. The series reflects beauty found in the city, in places where commonly beauty is not searched for - found in blemishes of the streets. These scars and stains of New York are always a cause of complaints. Here they are exposed, not as signs of city's wear and tear, but as abstract compositions created by life of a busy metropolis, not as a group of unsightly age marks but as individual objects of beauty and character. They are taken out of their usual context - singled out and enlarged - until they speak on its own, not only as evidence of hurried life, neglect … but as an art form. These images follow the footsteps of abstract art by revealing its digital origin at closer inspection just as brushstroke in abstract painting. Photographs are printed on PhotoRag using Giclee process. The dimensions of most of the prints are 30"x40". (Click on the image to view larger photo)
