Guardian Angel:
…Selecting the right pose and moment, technical mastery, beauty, compelling realism, and above all expressing the complexity of human psychology are all visible in Leonardo's sculpture, "Guardian Angel".
The young woman´s pose is sensual without being erotic. Her physical
fragility hides an inner spiritual strength that is nonetheless discernable in
her ambiguous expression. Without a doubt, Leonardo learned a thing or two from his namesake. Because his angel has something of Mona Lisa´s smile: at once compassionate, playful, charming, knowing, innocent and condescending.
How much ambiguity can the human soul hide within?
Plato was right. That is a secret only artists can reveal--movingly, beautifully --in their art.
