The Muse of ART:
The delicate figure of the little muse--so young that she's barely a woman--seems to have been touched by Rodin, so fluid and sensual are her movements. She also evokes one of Degas' ballerinas, arms extended back, head turned to the side in a graceful pose that nonetheless appears natural and unassuming. Hinting at the artistic genealogy of the nineteenth-century, Leonardo also transposes the muse to our times. The corners of her mouth are subtly turned as if in an amused smile, for old symbols, like the notion of the muse, need to be shielded by a gentle, sympathetic irony. The bows in her hair soften her look, suggesting a childlike innocence.
