The artist of this portrait has been a life-long admirer of Sir Winston.
Having lived in England during the last four years of Churchill's life, hefelt compelled to do this portrait of Churchill on the day of his funeral, January 30th 1965. This portrait was actually drawn during that internationally telecast funeral.
The reference material for the portrait consisted of 25 various black and white photographs borrowed from the Philadelphia Library that were taken during
Sir Winston's later years, including one by Karsh.
The lithographic prints were belatedly reproduced from the original drawing in the fall of 1999. Prints are signed and numbered in pencil and may be personally autographed upon request. The original portrait (still in my possession) was drawn using a sepia tone conte crayon pencil.
Reproductions from the original drawing were closely scrutinized for clarity of the finest line work along with an accurate match of color.
These prints were produced on a four color Heidelberg press on heavy cream colored archival stock that closely matches the original drawing media.
