Hans, Dutch adopted Native American. Long a professional photographer, 1985 sees him visit a native American reserve in South Dakota, USA. He is so moved by the way of life, the wisdom and the natural way of living that he encounters, that he actively participates in the ceremonies. From that moment on, mystique, nature and symbolism are elements that inspire him. In 1988 Hans leaves his home in The Hague, Holland for four years for Canada. Since then, he paints with a combined technique of fresco and sculpture, in a Native American mythical concept. His work has a Native American feel to it and an almost fairy tale escapist appearance yet it has an authentic signature. This seems to originate from Hans’ spiritual identity and his technical artistry and experience. In his work, Hans seeks to portray tribal feelings of solidarity with the earth and nature.
