"Leaving Brumbles North East View", Dampier Archipelago Western Australia 20/9/2004 84 x 30 x 2 cm Original Oil painting, on fine Belgian linen, light weight pine stretch actual painting weight: 1 kg Painting Inspiration: Sailing out from Hampton Harbour on a glassy day along angel island where we explore the coast. I scale the mast and snap a few shots which capture the deep reflective turquoises contrasting with the piles of red rocks, known as the Dampier Archipelago. We make our way toward Rosemary Island. Unfortunately the tide is against us and the journey is slow. As we pass the eastern end of West Lewis Island we find Shanaly less than a mile to our Starboard bow. We give Pete a call & suss out an inviting bay to our port which we later find is Brumbles Marsh. Brad from Spinifex overhears our conversation on the radio & confirms that the bay is all good so we potter in to find another of our anchorage companions, Gotcha. We anchor up & realising its Australia Day after we have Pete & Paul over for a feed, a few drinks & a but of a strum. The next day is most spectacular & although the wind is apparent.
