LIQUID GLASS COVERED CRADLED PANELS
Since ancient times, people have polished minerals and stones. Such stones are pleasing to the eye and greatly prized for their luster and beauty. Recently, I developed a special technique that makes a painting look like a piece of stone. I use cradled panels that have wooden sides about 3½" deep. I paint on the front surface of the wood and cover it with a thick, even layer of colorless durable plastic. I call it "liquid glass" because the painting surface reminds me of the still waters of a quiet pond. The colors look very deep and fresh, as they would in a beautiful stone or seashell that is wet or under water. The "liquid glass" coating retains the freshness of a wet surface and brings out subtle variety of colors.
