Angela Yvonne Davis (1944- ): One needn't look much beyond the family into which Ms Davis was born or the confluence of time and place in which she grew, to sense the future shape of this young Alabaman. She became the prophetic voice of an era, a time when a voice was truly needed. She was there, her activist concerns for such issues as: racial equality among minority communities, penal reform, black consciousness and the criminal justice system. Culture and politics but scratch the surface of her intellectual journey. The idea that, "freedom is a constant struggle" is as fresh and salient today as it was in the 60's, hell choose your century! She has published extensively, and continues to do so. "The House That Race Built" is a compilation of essays by: Cornell West, Angela Davis and Tony Morrison, and so she deservedly takes fer place, elbow to elbow, among the great thinkers of the day. Her courageous intensity and passion are 'the stuff' of this true patriot of the world. This image was taken into the permanent collection of the New York Public Library (Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture), 1978, and reside in several private colections as well.
