For some three weeks in the Fall of 1980 all work at the Lenin Shipyards, in Gdansk, Poland, came to an abrupt halt. The workers of the shipyard and citizens of the land were about to embark upon a journey that would lead to the legal formation of free trade unions, 'Solidarity', and eventually an era of relitive freedom for all in this, then, 'Iron Curtain' country. The main gate of the shipyard became a meeting place where, at any time during the negotiatons between workers and Communist leaders, tens of thousands of Polish citizens would come to listen and receive daily updates from the workers. Because the yards were worker occupied the main gate also became a meeting place for the wives, girlfriends and family members with the workers within.
All materials, techniques and pigments used in producing this print are archivally in line with museum standards. Print is frontally titled and signed with copyright. All measurments are from the image edges and do not include the generous griping border. Each print also include instructions for care and if followed will extend print-life so as to provide many, many decades of viewing pleasure. Buyer will pick-up actual shipping and insurance costs.
