William Moses Kunstler (1919-95): In his defense of the Chicago Seven, that group of notables charged with conspiracy to incite riots at the 1968 Democratic Convention, he garnered considerable public and judicial attention. Often lauded as a publicity seeking egoist when using the media to further client goals, when Mr. Kunstler entered the courtroom all knew that those named on the docket were only half the battle to be fought. In a system where money buys justice and those without go to jail, Bill Kunstler made certain the judicial system itself was on trial. Wm. Moses Kunstler's efforts in civil liberties law and the racial struggles of our time has earned him the distinction as perhaps the most controversial figure in modern legal history.
