We're ok. We got our electricity back yesterday afternoon, so it was only 5 days without it. Last year for hurricanes Frances and Jeanne we were out a week and a half each time so this was an improvement. Not fun but at least we had a generator this time. We didn't suffer too much damage, some downed trees, a couple of shingles off the roof, an arm from the frame of our screened porch came loose but we fixed it, things like that. The hurricane itself seemed worse than both of last year's hurricanes. Frances was a cat 2 and Jeanne was a 3; Wilma came through here as a 2. The difference is we had the eye pass over us directly with Frances and Jeanne so we had a respite in the middle of both. Wilma's eye came within a mile of our house so it just missed us, meaning we had constant wind and no respite. I know how much worse people south of the eye had it because even for us it was bad. The back side of the hurricane was the worst. The wind was so bad it ripped the hurricane shutters off three of our windows and many of the other covers were flapping and about to fly off. We were actually pretty scared at moments, something we didn't really feel during last year's hurricanes.

I thought last year was a fluke, getting hit by Frances and Jeanne in a two week span. I thought this year for sure we'd be spared. But this year showed us that hurricanes are getting worse, more powerful, more frequent, and more likely to hit us in a season than not. So we've decided to move. We're sick of this and know we don't want to go through several months a year preparing and waiting and watching for hurricanes then getting hit. So far we've been hit by 2's and 3's, God forbid anything higher comes through.
