Art Of Liquid FlowbyRobert Kernodle
Flowing liquid contains constantly-changing patterns that can be halted and looked at. The patterns are there already in the molecules, mechanics and geometry of fluid behavior. The starting conditions for attractive designs exist already in nature. I just shake things up and improve how these designs work out.
I manipulate fluid colors in thin pools, first using nothing more than momentum of the colors in the pools. Sometimes I use momentum of colors propelled through the air. Sometimes I stage the pools on thought-out backgrounds. Sometimes I add formal elements later.
It's an interesting, physical process that leads to paintings which I describe as the style of "fluidism".
Streams, islands, rivulets, swirls, tendrils, blobs, blends, all sorts of curious things happen when making these paintings. I never know precisely what will happen. Something starts to develop. I might or might not be able to guide this development to a better conclusion.
I add, take away, build layers. All this is brought together by a logic that words really can't explain.
Fluidism is on-the-edge creativity, where structural failure inspires structured success. Reality is born unexpectedly. Calculation cooperates with chance. Wild and refined actions unite. Chaos and control combine in a dynamic series of events leading to one-of-a-kind compositions.
