If I might contribute some valid design input, then may I suggest that your painting shoes be of the sort that flop off your feet with no ties or bindings - you know, like a flip flop, except call it a "flop flip" or a "drip drip" - add some dog ears on the sides to give it unmistakable character (but not too long, as this would enhance the already-large-proclivity to cause tripping and falling -THAT's the last thing a flailing artist needs to do). Now for the final touch, add the face of your favorite artist, whom you stomp on everytime you walk with his dog ears flapping, while you go happily about your grand creatsheeeohns.
