Just curious: I wonder how many D'Artians—or artists in general for that matter—turn to the field of Graphic Design to make a living. And do you feel that graphic art is under-appreciated?
Personally, as a Graphic Artist, I feel that it is one place where form meets function. The graphic artist is challenged to relay information, not just in an esthetic way, but in a useful and efficient manner. It takes puzzle-solving skills (how do we relay this message in this amount of space so that it is not just readable, but read?) and a real understanding of human nature, as well as graphics capabilities... and the only people who MIGHT appreciate what a creative feat accomplished the final output is the person who gave you the bare bones mess to be interpreted.
