I don't mean to deflate expectations, but I ask you:

What makes exhibiting your artwork "worth it" ?

Grandiosity of an event...... for what?, to what end?

You pay. Somebody else makes money.

It's like the big vanity poetry conventions, with all the trappings of fame and glory and recognition,............BUT ...........Y-O-U pay for it all!

Artists, who already commit to a lifestyle that culture does not widely support........are asked to shell out even more money and time that culture certainly does not afford them, so that some producer of grandiose events can maintain the illusion that the world has a caring culture who supports a thriving art world!

It's all an illusion that you pay for.

If paying for illusions is your thing, then go for it. If you have the money to spend, and you find such events fun, then I see no reason why you should not pay for this sort of fun. It's like a vacation that you shell out dollars for. "See Hawaii", "Come to the land of wild beasts", "Sink your feet in the sands of paradise", "Come pretend to be a great, world-respected artist".

I'm just not very favorable to any event that does not recognize/admit the realities of the art world. It costs too many dollars to support the delusions of ignorant event producers, and it costs too much dignity to support artists being deluded by event planners who know the truth.

I hope that I'm TOTALLY off base in my assessment.
