I could most certainly understand your concerns, by my 3rd year I was faced with the same dilema for similar reasons.
I will keep this short....
"garbage in, garbage out"
With so many art schools out there they all follow their own agenda or schools of thought you could say.... one school may be geared towards the classical or representational while others welcome exploratory works.... you just have to find your fit when selecting a school....
So maybe you were a duck that ended up with a family of chickens, but who cares, paint for yourself, if it's good people will admire it.
There are no right or wrong answers but all I could say about art school is that it is a business, you use it as stepping stone to better things and establish your ties.
People are not going to care whether you got C's or A's in your classes. Just like anything else in life you can consider their critiques as suggestions but you don't have to take it. Just try to sift through all the junk and keep what is of value to you. Afterall in the art world your work warrants just as much respect as any master. Anything goes.
Remember nobody liked Matisse's works at first.... and Van Gogh had over 300 works he never sold one piece in his life-time (I think).
So have confidence in your work.
Hope this helps somewhat.
