You will feel much better someone heard your venting.
Well, I am a student artist and just started (about 3 years) after all my studies and career (I received doctor in medical science field). I still work and have a family. I was always insterested in art and was good at it. However, I never thought about having a career in art. I thought I will be starving..... ha ha ha... After all, it doesn't matter..
If you have "art" in your blood and you need to creat something using art, it will always come back to you. Without it you will feel the void and with it, you feel the peace or you know you are at the right place.
I would not give up if I were you. I guess you need to find about yourself and decide. You still have a plenty of time and many opportunities coming your way if you are looking for it. If you want, you can take a break by taking other career or art related career. Don't worry.......
