Kernodle - Omicron Paintings - Primal Substance
The Omicron series portrays the human body as a heroic cosmic structure, ... as an organism of the universe, ... as space so dense and dynamic that it comes to life. This collection of paintings presents space as fine energy-substance from which the human body materializes. It depicts arms, legs, and gestures extending from a whirlpool center in this energy-substance. It suggests face, feet and other anatomical features threading back into this energy-substance. With a massive, somewhat primitive, inventive style, these paintings capture the artists's earliest feelings about human form in the cosmos.
"Omicron" is letter fifteen of the Greek alphabet. It labels the artist's fifteenth phase of human-figure drawing. Fourteen other phases of experimental drawing preceeded it. Phase fifteen evolved into these larger paintings. Each painting of the collection rests on this entire developmental era. There are no copies of the original works and no current plans to copy this era.
