Over the past three weeks I have used what little time I have spare to try to get the R1800 to produce the prints of the quality it is supposed to.

I have traditionally used either Blockingford 190g/m2 (90lb) ink-jet matt watercolour paper, or Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 118g/m2 in my old HP 1200 printer's sheet-feed system without any problems. But the Epson 1800 main sheet feeder is a sometimes hit and more often miss affair, with paper either failing to load at all, or simply passing through the printer and being ejected at high speed, while the single sheet feeder at the rear is somewhat better, it is not perfect either. In addition the main sheet feeder will not take A3+ paper (the 190g/m2 Blockingford sheets). I have been advised to change to Epson papers as they may feed better, and also have the correct coating for the special Epson inks that Epson emply in the 1800 system. Does this chime in with anyone elses understanding?

This links to my second and much more serious problem. In spite of all my efforts, including taking out the 30 day trial in the latest photoshop software and using every setting from greyscale, no colour correction, full colour correction, to printer in command / software in command settings, and employing and neutralising every control which might make a difference, I am completely unable to print my Black and White and Sepia works in anything other than black/Grey and red!!! yes RED! (And Photoshop shows that the original jpegs are indeed black and white with 0 for all the RGB values and full values for white.)

And all my attempts at colour printing are also turning out with a red tinge which is resistant to compensating for via altering the print colour or saturation controls etc in Photoshop.

So far I have used up around 30 sheets of paper and all of my matt black and most of my red inks, plus more than halfd of the other main inks!!

I am about to contact Epson about the problems, but in the meanwhile thought I would share this update in case any further thoughts come to mind (aside from Frank's switch to Mac, which while very attractive, is beyond my present means).
